Frank Tesoriero - Mother has been a resident since 15th September, 2008
At 88 years of age, and fiercely independent, mum lived at home alone. Even with services coming into the home and regular visits from her daughter, mum's health was deteriorating. Mini strokes, falls, hospitalizations. Although cooked meals were brought to her and kept frozen, she was not eating nutritiously. In the time mum has been at Shalom, her physical health has improved to the point where her face is rosy and she reports having no physical problems beyond those that come with age.
I visit from Adelaide every six to eight weeks and it is very clear that mum is treated with great dignity, respect and affection. Of course, mum would love to remain in her own home, the home in which she raised her family, but accepts this is not a safe option for her anymore. The atmosphere in Shalom, both human and physical, is warm, inviting and gives residents a sense of belonging. She enjoys the outlook onto the trees and has come to look forward to a "cheeky cockatoo" that visits on the patio roof most days.

Ken and Vicky Mansell - Father has been a resident since 18th September, 2008
You worry that you could do better at caring for your father than any nursing home but I can honestly say that with the staff at Shalom it's just not true. My father is treated with true respect and real affection by the staff and I am thankful that there are people with such a passion for caring. Through this care my father has improved immensely both physically and mentally. I would happily recommend anyone considering the Shalom Centre as a new home for the people they care greatly for... because that is what they will get, Shalom staff who care greatly. |
Mildred Taft - Husband has been a resident since 1st December, 2008
My husband has dementia, and it became more and more difficult to look after him at home. We started to search around for a special type of accommodation where he could be well cared for and I would be comfortable for him to be there. It wasn't an easy task.
We found the Shalom Centre run by Baptist Community Services group. Their new premises were dementia specific so I felt confident that they would know what needed to be known about dementia generally although it does present in different ways depending on what type of dementia a sufferer has. It took me a couple of months to decide to do it, but eventually my husband went in.
He has been there six months now and I cannot speak more highly of the care he is getting. The staff are well-trained and so patient, the facilities are good - anything he needs is available to him. Shalom has all the right equipment to help staff move him around, as his mobility is not good. He has not shown any sign of being unhappy. My husband has a GP visit regularly and who will come anytime he is called. The residents all have large private rooms with ensuite bathrooms fully equipped. The hallways are wide and the premises are light and sunny.
The food is presented in an attractive manner and is very tasty. Family are always welcome to come and visit and to eat with their relative. Also available are; Physiotherapists, Massages, Hairdresser, Speech Therapist and Podiatrist. The Physio and Hairdresser are on the premises.
My daughters and I are so glad to have found such a good place for our much loved father and husband to be looked after. |
